Ministry of Mercantile Marine, The Aegean and Island Policy

The functions institutionally performed by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, are to a large extent complicated, requiring involvement and cooperation of a number of public services, regional services, international organizations as well as that of professional and social agencies. It is particularly important and should be stressed that according to the current european and international regulations, rarely can one find another government agency having such a wide range of responsibilities as that of the Ministry. Practising policies in a globalized economy system, establishing a national maritime policy for ports management in a country with numerous islands, protection of sea boundaries and elimination of terrorism, navigation control and seaworthiness as well as marine environment protection are pivots which mostly rely on specialized Hellenic Coast Guard Officers.
